HSMC FOUNDERS’ DAY DINNER – RAISING THE LEGEND TO NEW HEIGHTS

Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) held its celebratory and thanksgiving Founders’ Day Dinner at the Auditorium of Lee Quo Wei Academic Building, HSMC on 16 March 2015. The Dinner was graced by Ms Rose Lee, Chairman of the HSMC Board of Governors and College Council and over 300 members, guests, alumni and friends of the College.

Carrying the theme “Passing on the Legend”, the Dinner unveiled a new page for the College by upholding the noble values centred on its motto “erudition and perseverance” and the unique “Liberal + Professional” education model. Addressing at the Dinner, President Simon S M Ho was thankful that HSMC has been widely recognised by the Government and different sectors of society for its outstanding achievement. He presented the College’s recent development, the future directions, and took the opportunity to solicit future donations and support from the community.

During the Dinner, Dr Moses Cheng, Member of the Board of Governors and Vice-Chairman of the Fundraising and Donation Committee, sang the classic “I’ll Walk with God” and the golden pop “My Way” in accompaniment by the HSMC Student Sinfonietta on stage. The joint performance received big applause from the crowd. The Dinner also filled the festive evening with some fantastic student performances including an opening dance by the HSMCSU Dance Society, a Canto pop song “Every Single Tomorrow” by winners of the College Singing Contest, and pipa and guitar duo by local and exchange students. Alumni representatives of different eras also shared the highlights of their study at HSSC/HSMC.

On this joyous occasion, the Dinner also raised over HK$700,000 from the auctions. All proceeds will go to support HSMC’s campus expansion project and student whole person development initiatives. The auction items included a set of four unique paper artwork by local “Paper-tearing Master” Mr Lee Sing Man; a bamboo bicycle handcrafted by HSMC students; three Chinese calligraphy and painting works by renowned artist Professor Chen Ruigeng; and a 17th Century Chinese “Blanc-de-Chine” Reticulated Brushpot donated by Mrs Patricia Wong, member of the Board of Governors.

HSMC deeply appreciated all the members of the Board of Governors, College Council, Fundraising and Donation Committee, HSMC/HSSC Alumni Association, and all organising and supporting colleagues for their efforts that made the evening wonderful and memorable.

Special thanks also go to all supporting organisations for their donation-in-kind that added a dash of excitement to the charity raffle: (in no particular order) Mr Jack Li, Director of Bamboo International Holding Co Ltd; Mr Kenneth Leung, Chairman of the HSMC/HSSC Alumni Association Ltd; Dr George Lam, Chairman-Indochina, Myanmar and Thailand and Senior Adviser-Asia of Macquarie Capital (Hong Kong) Ltd and member of HSMC Fundraising and Donation Committee; Dr T L Ho, Governor of The S H Ho Foundation Ltd and member of HSMC Board of Governors; Karrie International Holdings Ltd; UNIQLO HK Ltd; Hoi Tin Tong Co Ltd; Dr John Chan, Chairman of Chaifa Holdings Ltd, and Mr Yu Chau Wai for his sponsorship of wines for the whole Dinner.
