Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) has embarked on a Master Campus Expansion Plan which aims at the development of a new campus with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities to enhance quality education and all-round student development. After the completion of Academic Building (Block A), Sports and Amenities Centre (Block B) and Academic and Administrative Building (Block D) during 2012 to 2013, HSMC is very delighted to gain the support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust which generously pledged a donation of HK$200 million to fund the construction of new student residence halls.

On March 28, the HSMC Jockey Club Student Residence Halls Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on Site F. Ms. Rose Lee, Chair of Board of Governors and College Council, Mr. Philip N L Chen, GBS, JP, Steward of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr. Martin Tam, Member of Board of Governors and Chair of Steering Committee on Campus expansion and Professor Simon Ho, President of HSMC are invited to officiate the Ceremony.

Ms. Rose Lee expresses her gratitude to the Trust for its generous donation to build the Student Residence Halls, which helps to provide students with about 1200 places a year, so that students can enjoy a well-rounded tertiary education.

Mr. Philip Chen says it is a historic occasion for The Hong Kong Jockey Club to work with Hang Seng Management College for the first time. “We are honored to have the opportunity to donate to support this project and provide 1200 hostel places for students each year in order to enhance the facilities of HSMC.”

Professor Simon Ho thanks The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the generous donation for the construction of the student residence halls. He said: “Residential hall education can play a pivotal role in this process, and in fact it is an integral part of our ‘Liberal + Professional’ education model.”

Mr. Tam believes that the project will not be a success without the full support from all walks of life. In addition, the architectural style of the Halls will be based on an environmentally conscious concept which aims at providing students with environmentally friendly and comfortable accommodation.

The student residence halls, covering a gross floor area of more than 14,000 square metres and costing an estimated HK$481 million. It is targeted to open by the 2015-2016 academic year.
