In appreciation of the kind donation from Mr Lo Foo Cheung, the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) has named a Collections Room the “Lo Foo Cheung Special Collections Room”.
The naming ceremony was held today (6 July) and officiated by Mr Lo Foo Cheung, Chairman, FC Packaging Holding Limited, Mrs Lo Wong Betty Wai, Dr Patrick Poon, Chairman of HSUHK – Foundation Management Committee and Fundraising and Donation Committee; and Professor Simon S. M. Ho, President of HSUHK.
In his welcome remarks, President Ho conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr Lo for his kind donation. President Ho also hoped Mr Lo would share his valuable experience in business creation and management in the Mainland in the future.
When addressing the guests at the naming ceremony, Mr Lo said, “Over the years in the process of fighting for my career, I’ve never given up on reading books on literature, history and philosophy in my spare time. In different stages of life, reading the same book gives one a different experience, which will help them in all aspects of their life and business management”. He commended HSUHK’s motto: “Erudition and Perseverance” which advocates a combination of knowledge and practice, encouraging one to continuously apply academic knowledge to life in the real world, advance learning outcomes through practice, and give back to the community.
The Special Collections Room is located on the ground floor of the Library in the S H Ho Academic Building at HSUHK. It houses rare and unique materials, including significant works such as 34 autographed books by the Nobel Laureate Gao Xingjian, and a rich collection of works of Chinese literature, philosophy, and history donated by the Head of the Department of Chinese, Professor Alex Cheung Kwong Yue. Selections of scholarly publications by HSUHK faculties are also housed here.
