Appreciation and Naming Ceremony of Chi Wah Foundation Lecture Hall
The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) has received a generous donation from the Chi Wah Foundation, established by Dr Colin Lam Ko-yin, to support the University’s continuous development and talent cultivation initiatives. In recognition of the Chi Wah Foundation’s valuable support, HSUHK has named the lecture hall in the Creative Humanities Hub as the “Chi Wah Foundation Lecture Hall” and held an Appreciation and Naming Ceremony on 27 July to express its sincere gratitude.
The ceremony was officiated by honourable guests including Dr Colin Lam, Chairman of the Chi Wah Foundation; Ms Wurina, Vice Chairman of the Foundation; Mr Pan Xubo, Consultant to the Foundation; Dr Moses Cheng, Council Chairman of HSUHK; Dr Patrick Poon, Chairman of the Fundraising and Donation Committee; and Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK. The Ceremony was attended by numerous guests, including 60 teachers and students from mainland secondary schools, supported by the Chi Wah Foundation, travelled to HSUHK specifically to attend the ceremony and take part in a campus tour.
In his welcome remarks, Dr Moses Cheng highlighted the Chi Wah Foundation’s longstanding commitment to advancing education through the support of numerous educational projects in both Hong Kong and the Mainland, benefiting countless students over the years. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Dr Lam for upholding the philosophy of “It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to nurture a person” and for his unwavering dedication to youth development and educational advancement. Dr Cheng noted that the naming of the Lecture Hall not only signifies HSUHK’s sincere gratitude for the Foundation’s support, but also marks an important milestone in the shared mission of fostering education and nurturing future leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Colin Lam shared his appreciation for HSUHK’s distinctive “Liberal + Professional” education model, which equips students with professional knowledge while providing a vibrant campus experience that broadens their horizons and enriches their personal growth. He remarked that while there are many investment opportunities, education remains the best investment as it nurtures talent, transforms lives, and contributes to society. Established 34 years ago, the Chi Wah Foundation has consistently supported educational development in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Through its philanthropic efforts, the Foundation seeks to create better learning and development opportunities for young people and to cultivate talent with a strong sense of national identity, a global outlook, and social responsibility.
President Simon Ho expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chi Wah Foundation for its generous support and guidance, as well as to Dr Lam for his long-standing passion and contributions to education. He noted that the donation will further strengthen the University’s development initiatives. As a non-profit private university, HSUHK relies on the support of philanthropic individuals and organisations to continuously enhance its teaching and research capabilities and to advance campus development.
During the ceremony, the officiating guests jointly unveiled the plaque of the Chi Wah Foundation Lecture Hall, marking the official opening of the venue. Following the unveiling, guests toured the innovative research projects of the School of Decision Sciences and the Martin Ka Shing Lee Innovation Lab, gaining deeper insights into the University’s latest achievements in teaching, research, innovation, and campus development.
